City Trip to Barcelona

At the beginning of April we made a three-day short trip to Barcelona City and Airport.
Barcelona is the capital city of the autonomous community of Catalonia in the Kingdom of Spain, as well as the country's second most populous municipality, with a population of 1.6 million within city. Founded as a Roman city, in the Middle Ages Barcelona became the capital of the County of Barcelona. After merging with the Kingdom of Aragon, Barcelona continued to be an important city in the Crown of Aragon as an economic and administrative centre of this Crown and the capital of the Principality of Catalonia. Barcelona has a rich cultural heritage and is today an important cultural centre and a major tourist destination. Particularly renowned are the architectural works of Antoni Gaudí and Lluís Domènech i Montaner, which have been designated UNESCO World Heritage Sites. The headquarters of the Union for the Mediterranean is located in Barcelona. The city is known for hosting the 1992 Summer Olympics as well as world-class conferences and expositions and also many international sport tournaments. also known as Barcelona Airport, is an international airport located 12 km (7.5 mi) southwest of the centre of Barcelona, Spain, lying in the municipalities of El Prat de Llobregat, Viladecans, and Sant Boi. It is the main airport of Catalonia, the second largest and second busiest in Spain behind Madrid-Barajas Airport, and the seventh busiest in Europe.
In 2016 Barcelona Airport handled a record 44.1 million passengers, up 11.2% from 2015. It is a hub for Air Nostrum, EasyJet, Norwegian Air International, Ryanair and Vueling, and a focus city for Air Europa and Iberia. The airport mainly serves domestic European destinations, also having flights to North America (United States of America and Canada), South America (Argentina, Brazil, Chile, Colombia, Cuba, Dominican Republic and Peru), Middle East (Egypt, Israel, Lebanon, Jordan, United Arab Emirates, Qatar and Iran), Asia (China, Pakistan, Singapore and South Korea), and Africa (Senegal, Gambia, Tunisia, Algeria and Morocco).
